Impact tests according to European standards
The dynamic conditions of a collision are often complex. The correct assessment of the function of a crash barrier is obtained by conducting collision tests. The tests are carried out in accordance with European standards: EN1317-1, EN1317-2, and EN1317-5, which determine which functional requirements the crash barrier can meet.
The choice of crash barrier will, as a starting point, be made on the basis of the most common accident situation, mostly when driving a passenger car. In a number of situations, there may be a reason to choose a crash barrier which can handle the collision of larger vehicles, in situations such as:
- A high percentage of heavy vehicles and high annual traffic on the route.
- Situations where the breakthrough of a crash barrier with a larger vehicle has particularly serious consequences.
- Stretches where the accident statistics indicate that a higher strength class should be selected.
